High Mountain Walking - June /July 2010
Fully booked
Day 1 Arrive. We collect you from Granada or Malaga Airport. Spend the night in the Hotel Lanjarón.
Day 2
Ascent of Trevenque (2079m) from Collado Sevilla. A good opening peak, although slightly lower this is none the less equally impressive and challenging. Many consider this to be the ‘jewel’ of the mountain summits.
Day 3 Depart for Capileira, and walk to the Poqueira refuge where we spend the night, via deserted valley's full of water and wild flowers..
Day 4
From the refuge, walk to the foot of El Pulpito, followed by an easy scramble to the summit. Continue to the Veleta - Caldera Road, then return via the Rio Seco. Once again we follow beautiful and rarely walked valleys, full of early summer flowers.
Day 5 Walk up the rio Mulhacén, which usually has carpets of gentians in early summer. Ascend Mulhacén (3482m) Spain’s highest mountain, via Caldera and descend to Hoya del Portillo with great views of the Poqueira valley and even on occasion the mountains of Africa. Return to Hotel Lanjarón.
Day 6 A well earned rest day. Either relax at the pool, sample the Lanjarón spa or join us for an optional trip to Granada, taking in the Alhambra (small charge) and a short walk through the rocky gorge of Los Cahoros at Monachil (approx. 3 hours).
Day 7 Ascend Pico del Caballo (3007m). Caballo is Europe’s most westerly 3000m peak; stunning scenery and often deserted, there is no better way to acclimatize.Spend the night in the Hotel Lanjarón.
Day 8 Depart. We take you back to the airport.
We reserve the right to change this itinerary depending on the weather, snow conditions and needs of the group.
